Outspoken Nigerian singer and internet personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has reportedly collapsed in police detention after allegedly falling critically ill due to his prolonged incarceration.
The alarming development has cast a harsh spotlight on the conditions of his detention and the circumstances surrounding his legal troubles, which began late last year.
The roots of this escalating crisis trace back to late last year when Speed Darlington was rearrested for allegedly breaching bail conditions tied to his initial arrest.
That arrest stemmed from a controversial case involving allegations of defamation and harmful remarks aimed at some of Nigeria’s biggest stars, including global Afrobeats icon Burna Boy.
Despite Cubana Chiefpriest, an influential nightlife entrepreneur publicly vowing to intervene and secure Speed Darlington’s release, little to no progress has reportedly been made.
According to a close source and confirmed by popular gossip blogger Cutie Juls, the situation has now reached a crisis point.
Taking to Instagram, Cutie Juls revealed that Speed Darlington recently collapsed in detention, raising fears that his alleged health issues could spiral into a full-blown tragedy.
The blogger described his condition as dire and called on Burna Boy to step in, use his influence to bring an end to what she termed an avoidable disaster in the making for the singer.
Cutie wrote in parts;
“Dear @burnaboygram, Odogwu nwanem, I am not saying you are the one that is keeping Speedy at the detention because legally, I know it’s because he jumped bail, breeched bail conditions etc.
“But since you are the complainant, please kindly help in every way you can so that the police will speed up Akpi’s bail because Akpi is very very sick. I ain’t capping. In fact, he collapsed on Tuesday and from the medical results, he is indeed very ill and it can get worse or fatal.
“Remember there is already an unintelligent narrative and perception on the internet that you are the one keeping Akpi at detention so hun, trust me if anything happens to Akpi, unfortunately many people will blame you for it regardless of the truth that you are not responsible for him not obeying and abiding by court conditions.”
The blogger didn’t shy away from pointing fingers, taking aim at Cubana Chiefpriest for his apparent failure to act on his promise to release Speed Darlington.
