  • Pandemonium broke out at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, after a female student launched a shocking attack on a lecturer, sunk her teeth into him during a heated confrontation.
  • As the dramatic incident spread like wildfire, sparked outrage and debate, the university swiftly stepped in, addressed the controversy.

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has released an official statement on chaotic confrontation between Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 300-level student of History and International Studies.

The heated altercation, which unfolded on campus, was reportedly sparked when Dr. Okoye interrupted Precious while she was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor.

Eyewitnesses say the lecturer was attempting to pass when the student’s filming session was disrupted, triggering a verbal exchange that rapidly spiraled out of control.

Tensions exploded when Precious grabbed the lecturer’s clothing in a heated display, prompted stunned onlookers to step in.

Many who witnessed the altercation have called for disciplinary measures against the student, who is rumored to be the daughter of a female lecturer at the university.

In response to the uproar, the university management, has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, urging all involved, along with the general public, to remain patient while due process takes its course.

The institution, in a press release, reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, emphasized that disciplinary standards will be upheld without bias.

The statement reads;

“The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been made aware of a disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies and Goddy Mbakwe Precious a 3rd year student in the department of History and International Studies. The incident, which has gained significant attention on social media, is being taken very seriously by the university authorities.

In line with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, and in adherence to the principles of fair hearing, equity, and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the matter. We urge all concerned parties and members of the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth.

“The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, and we will ensure that appropriate actions and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

“Nnamdi Azikiwe University remains an institution of learning that upholds high moral and ethical standards. There is no place for indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behaviour within our community.
