Nnamdi Azikiwe University react to student’s assault on Lecturer in viral clip, reveals next course of action

When a teaching institution is faced with an act of assault, it is not just a momentary incident—it is a test of its moral backbone. How it responds will determine whether violence is tolerated as an acceptable reaction or condemned as a violation of everything education stands for.

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has released an official statement on chaotic confrontation between Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 300-level student of History and International Studies.

The heated altercation, which unfolded on campus, was reportedly sparked when Dr. Okoye interrupted Precious while she was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor.

Eyewitnesses say the lecturer was attempting to pass when the student’s filming session was disrupted, triggering a verbal exchange that rapidly spiraled out of control.

Tensions exploded when Precious grabbed the lecturer’s clothing in a heated display, prompted stunned onlookers to step in.
