- The state government has sealed a controversial shrine in Okija, branding it a hub of illegal rituals and deception.
- Officials warned young Nigerians against falling for manipulative native doctors and pastors who exploit their hunger for quick wealth.
The Anambra State government has ramped up its crackdown on fraudulent spiritual rackets, sealing off a controversial shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala LGA.
The shrine, allegedly run by self-styled native doctor Ekene Igboegbueze, was shut down after locals raised alarm over its shady operations.
Reports suggest Igboegbueze preyed on desperate individuals, lured them with grand promises of supernatural wealth, an illusion the government has now classified as a criminal enterprise.
Prince Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, confirmed the action, emphasized that it falls squarely under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.
He further revealed that assets tied to the shrine have also been sealed, signaling a broader purge of illicit spiritual dealings in the state.
“Igboegbueze’s business is illegal under state laws, and the government is determined to rid Anambra of such fraudulent activities,”
“All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and the results will determine further government action.” Emeakai said.
This development follows the dramatic arrest of Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, a famed yet controversial native doctor known for his opulent lifestyle and alleged spiritual might.
The formidable Anambra State vigilante unit, Agunaechemba, apprehended Akwa Okuko on Saturday, February 8—a high-profile takedown confirmed by Soludo TV via Facebook.
However, the aftermath has sparked intrigue. A viral and shared video from his detention shows him undergoing interrogation.
According to reports, the arrest follows grave allegations that the celebrity juju master Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki has been providing powerful charms for notorious kidnappers, many of whom allegedly operate under the guise of yahoo boys while terrorizing Anambra State.
