Woman, 35, remanded for allegedly strangling son to death

An Oyo State Family Court in Ibadan has remanded Olufunke Sakiru, 35, to the Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo town for allegedly strangling her son to death.

The defendant was remanded at Abolongo Correctional Centre pending the outcome of legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions, according to Chief Magistrate Patricia Adetuyibi, who did not take her plea (DPP).

Adetuyibi then adjourned the case until March 30, 2023, for further consideration.

The defendant is charged with murder.

According to the prosecution counsel, Insp Folake Ewe, the defendant allegedly strangled her son, Ibrahim Sakiru, on December 1 at about 3 a.m. in Oge Irewolede area, Saki Town, Oyo State.

According to Ewe, the offense violates Section 316 and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
