Rex Nwome, a graduate of the institution and a close friend of Favour, claimed she committed suicide due to repeated failures in this specific course.

“Favour was my classmate and best friend in the English Department. The lecturer vowed never to allow Favour to graduate,” he said.

Despite passing all other courses, Favour failed this lecturer’s course and had to pay another year’s tuition to retake it. When she failed again, the resulting depression intensified, especially when the latest NYSC list did not include her name.

Rex mentioned that Favour had been wandering the university, seeking help, desperate to graduate and serve. Her despair led to her tragic decision.

The State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident on Thursday. “Yes, the command received the report of suicide by a female student,” he stated.
