Sowore leads Raye to NYSC office, claims officials absconded after summoning corps member for bashing Tinubu

A corps member serves not only with actions but with words. Raye’s voice does not shake, because commitment to truth is stronger than the weight of summons. How NYSC handles this moment will shape how it is viewed, not just by Raye and Sowore, but by the public and future corps members

  • Sowore took to social media with a searing update from his on-ground follow-up on Corper Raye’s NYSC summons.
  • Standing in solidarity, he escorted her to their office, declared that the officials outright absconded, vanished from their posts the moment they arrived.

Nigeŕian Activist-politician Omoyele Sowore came out swinging on Monday, exposing what he described as a blatant act of cowardice by officials of the Local Government Inspector (LGI) office of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State.

According to Sowore, the very officials who had summoned Corps member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, for questioning vanished upon their arrival.

Recall that Raye had recently caused massive stir on social media with a scathing TikTok video under the hashtag #talktoraye, where she did not hold back in her frustration over Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis.

Directly blaming President Bola Tinubu for the hardship, she went as far as branding him a “terrible leader.” Her words sent shockwaves across the internet, drawing both support and backlash.

However, as her video gained traction, a more ominous development followed. Raye later claimed that NYSC officials had begun threatening her, and shortly after, she was officially summoned to appear before her Local Government Inspector in Lagos for questioning on Monday.

Refusing to let her walk into the lion’s den alone, Sowore, accompanied by a team of legal practitioners, escorted Raye to the NYSC office.

Taking to his Instagram page, Sowore did not mince words. Standing before newsmen on the ground, he declared that the NYSC officials had absconded, vanished into thin air rather than face the young woman they had summoned.

Sowore said, “We accompanied Raye with some attorneys to the LGI but the officials absconded, they went into hiding.”
