Traders count losses as properties and goods worth millions were reportedly destroyed at Katsina Central Market following a fire break which occurred on Monday morning, March 22.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the inferno began around 8:30am at a shop and quickly spread to other parts of the market.
Speaking on the tragic incident, the Chairman of the traders’ Association of the market, Alhaji Abbas Labaran Alibaba disclosed that the amount of properties destroyed by the fire cannot yet be ascertained.
He further disclosed that it began at a shop close to the Market mosque.
Alibaba ruled out electric problem as the possible cause of the fire.
He added there was no electric power at the time of the incident.
A combined team of Federal and state fire fighters, state emergency management agency, police and other security agencies worked together to handle the situation.
