Former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has rubbished the moves of Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to obtain N20 billion loan to construct flyovers in the state.
Kwankwaso said what Kano people need is more education and entrepreneurial skills not flyovers that will add to the debt profile of the state.
He stated this on Friday during an interview with BBC Hausa Service while reacting to Ganduje’s plan to construct a flyover with a N20bn loan at Hotoro roundabout in Kano Metropolis.
Kwankwaso added that Ganduje has no business borrowing to construct the project, which is the responsibility of the federal government and not the state government.
He said “Even though we need flyovers in Kano, but what people need the most in the state is education. They need to focus more on our children to be educated and get entrepreneurial skills to depend on themselves.
“Instead of Ganduje to go and see the President and ask him to do the bridge, because it is the responsibility of the federal government to do the flyovers connecting Kano City to Wudil, the governor went ahead and presented a photo that was badly designed which even the president did not understand and has something better in his office.”
He said the loan would have been put to better use if it were to be channeled towards education and health need of the state.
“Instead, the governor is supposed to meet President Buhari and tell him to ensure the construction of a linking bridge in the area since it has been planned by the federal government so that such fund can be utilized for better projects like education, health.”
