Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Kieran Tierney is set to miss the remainder of the Gunners’ season due to injury.
Tierney was forced off with a knee problem in Arsenal’s 3-0 loss against Liverpool in the Premier League earlier this month.
The Scotland international was replaced by Granit Xhaka as Arsenal defeated Sheffield United 3-0 victory over the weekend.
“He [Xhaka] had a specific role today for the game because we believed they were going to try to do something, and he had the right qualities to develop that role,” Arteta said at his post-match press conference after Arsenal’s win over Sheffield on Sunday.
“It’s a joy to work with him because you would ask him to play as a centre forward, and he would say, ‘yeah, yeah, I will do my best’. That is the player you want.
“Today, he had a really strong performance, and it gives another option.
He added, “Kieran is out, probably for the season, so we need different options in that position, and he [Xhaka] can be one of those.”
