A nurse and member of staff of a private hospital in Warri, Delta State has been arrested over admission racketeering into the Delta State School of Nursing.
The suspect who was arrested after a prospective student of the institution filed a complaint to the Director, Nursing Department of the Ministry of Health following the inability of the alleged racketeer to procure admission for him, was accused of collecting the sum of N400,000 to secure admission for the victim.
The Health Ministry alongside the victim, lured the nurse to Asaba with the sum of N100,000 agreed as payment for the admission. The suspect was arrested after being recorded on tape by policemen who wore plain clothes.
Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye who confirmed the arrest said;
“We received a complaint from a prospecting student who applied and sat for the entrance examination in March this year into the School of Nursing Warri. He couldn’t make the required score and gave a nurse four N400, 000 to get admitted.”
Mordi also warned admission seekers to be wary of racketeers who lure them with fake promises of admission into the state’s school of nursing.
