President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan has stated that service chiefs will appear before the senate on Thursday to brief the chamber on efforts at curbing the worsening insecurity in the country.
This was stated by the senate president while speaking on the floor of the senate on Tuesday.
Lawan said the service chiefs could not honour the invitation today because of a security meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock.
Recall that the senate had invited the service chiefs over reports that Boko Haram insurgents hoisted their flag in Shiroro LGA of Niger state.
The senate also asked its leadership to meet with the president to find solutions to insecurity in the country.
Heads of other security agencies like the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Department of State Services (DSS) are also expected to appear before the senate.
“Today the national security council is continuing with its meeting. It started last week. Therefore the invited security heads would not be able to come for the briefing. We are not sure they will finish their meeting today (on time),” the senate president said.
“We assume that it will spill to Wednesday just like it spilled to from Thursday or Friday to Tuesday.
“To be on the side of caution, our briefing will be on Thursday 6th of this month.”
