Nasir El-Rufai: Bandits, terrorists different from IPOB

Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has stated that there is a difference between bandits, Boko Haram terrorists and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu.

This was stated by Nasir El-Rufai while responding to questions from British Broadcasting Cooperation Pidgin(BBC Pidgin).

According to El-Rufai, banditry is a business with decentralised leadership and they are carrying out their business which is demanding ransom from their victims but IPOB is seeking to separate part of a sovereign state.

He registered his pleasure over arrest of Nnamdi Kanu he said, Kanu jumped bail, jeopardise his sureties and inciting violence on the part of Nigeria which is carried out with Eastern Security Network(ESN) in his way of sacking Nigeria.

When questioned whether Boko Haram should be treated in the same manner with Kanu, he declined saying “No, No, No”, he furthered that people are making comparison between apples and oranges.

He said, Boko Haram leader was in hiding for ten years while Nigerian Army is gunning for him unlike Kanu who is in exile tweeting to incite violence.

Nnamdi Kanu is in one place while Shekau is waging guerrilla warfare. The insurgency is still going on and the Federal Government is not giving up.

“Regarding bandits, they are not centralised under one leadership. Who is the head of the bandits? Who is the equivanlent of Nmandi Kanu with banditry?

“Bandits are just collections of independent criminals. It is a business for them. It is not a case of Nigeria must break up.

“I want to challenge anyone to tell me the central leader of bandits in the same position as Kanu.”

He however condemned Kanu for referring to Nigeria as a zoo.
