Gunmen in Edo state have abducted several students of the Naval College of Engineering situated in Sapele, Delta.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the incident happened on Monday while the students were returning from Kaduna to Sapele.
According to report, an 18-seater bus conveying the students was said to have been attacked and the occupants abducted.
Confirming the development to newsmen on Wednesday, the police spokesperson in Edo identified as Kotongs Bello said 14 of the abducted students have been rescued.
Bello said the 14 were rescued by officers of the command while five others are still with the abductors.
He added that officers are currently on the trail of the kidnappers to rescue the remaining students.
As at the time of writing this report, the school authority is yet to make a statement on the incident.
The incident is the latest in a series of abductions of students across the country.
Three weeks ago, 120 students of Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi, Kaduna state, were abducted when bandits invaded the school.
A total of 38 students have regained their freedom while 83 are still in captivity.
