Minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika has commended the Nigeria Meteorological Agency for the installation of a low-level wind shear alert system around most of the nation’s airports which ensures adequate warning about wind speed and direction.
This was made known by Sirika during an unscheduled facility inspection visit at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said early warnings by NiMet helps the aviation ministry and other sectors of the economy prepare for the unexpected challenges of nature.
Sirika said he was impressed with the work the agency is doing and applauded it for the growth it has made over the years through management efforts as exhibited by the present administration of Mansur Matazu, the director-general of the agency.
He commended the agency for its activities which have ensured safety of lives and property, and investments specifically in the area of agriculture.
“NiMet is important to all sectors of the economy including aviation. It provides information, early warnings and prepares the country for the force majeure and vagaries of mother Nature,” Sirika said.
“NiMet has made enormous progress in aviation, notably in the installation of Low Level Wind Shear Alert System, LLWAS, around most of the nation’s airports which ensures adequate warning about wind shear.
“I commend the agency for its activities which have ensured safety of lives and property, and investments specifically in the area of Agriculture, which has yielded good results.”
At an earlier visit and facility tour of NiMet’s capital projects, the Federal Character Commission (FCC) also applauded NiMet for the current infrastructural improvement initiative embarked upon by the leadership of the agency.
