Party leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun and Oyo states have stated that they will adopt the consensus arrangement at the ward congresses.
The congresses are billed for Saturday, July 31.
Recall that youth groups in Osun on Friday accused the governor, Gboyega Oyetola and chairman of the state’s caretaker committee, Gboyega Famodun of planning to hijack the process.
While speaking at a stakeholders meeting at the Osun government house on Friday, Famodun said the party is transparent on how it conducts its affairs, hence the consensus system.
“The principle of consensus would apply for the congress. according to the party, and we will be very transparent in our job,” NAN quoted Famodun as saying.
Chairman of the committee conducting the congresses, Gbenga Elegbeleye also dismissed allegations that he had been held against his will over plans by the governor to hijack the process.
In Oyo, NAN reports that party leaders in the state have agreed to have consensus executives at the ward levels after a meeting with the Gambo Lawan-led ward committee for the congresses.
“We are not having elections with the PDP or other party, but within our family. We encourage consensus so that we can resolve trouble, misunderstanding, and disagreement,” Lawan said.
“We lost the last election in Oyo because there was no understanding and agreement. There was too much personalisation. Some people put their personal interest above the collective interest.”
Akin Oke, chairman of the APC caretaker committee in Oyo, was present at the meeting. Teslim Folarin, Abdulfatai Buhari, and Olusegun Odebunmi, serving senators from Oyo were also present.
