Enoch Adegoke’s impressive Olympics debut ended on a sad note after he tore his hamstring in the men’s 100m final.
Enoch had a good start-up until the moment he tore his hamstring which ended his push for a medal.
The Nigerian athlete got to his second 100m final in a major competition at Tokyo 2020 Olympics after his impressive debut at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Prior to that injury, Enoch Adegoke became Nigeria’s first 100m Olympic finalist since 1996 clocking 10.00s in heat 2 of men’s 100m semi-final, 25 years after Davidson Ezinwa at Atlanta ’96.
In the heats, Enoch joined 10 other Nigerians in the exclusive club of sprinters who ran a sub 10secs in the 100m.
Enoch Adegoke has progressively grown since his debut at the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
He was not on the list of medal prospects going to the Olympics as he was based in Nigeria, he was also in contention in the race until he pulled the hamstring.
Italy’s Lamont Lamont Jacobs won the race with a time of 9.80s while Fred Kerley of the United States 9.84s and Andre de Grasse of Canada with a time of 9.89s PB finished second and third respectively.
