Popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho has been in captivity in Benin Republic for several days now following his arrest in the country while allegedly planning to move to Germany.
However, the Ooni of Ife has reportedly revealed what the Council of Obas is doing in order to help fellow tribesman.
The spokesperson to the respected monarch disclosed that consultations were ongoing to drum support for Sunday Igboho. According to Ooni of Ife’s aide, the monarch has been making some efforts of solidarity and support for Sunday Igboho.
He further explained:
‘You cannot be making solidarity for someone you have not supported. The fact that the council of Obas has not met to discuss that issue, does not mean the regional obas are not communicating among themselves on the way forward.
“The royal fathers must be making efforts on the issue as well and they should not be expected to reveal them to the public at a critical time like this.’
Sunday Igboho is facing trial in Benin Republic and his lawyers are reportedly trying to prevent his extradition to Nigeria. Some traditional rulers in Nigeria and Benin Republic are also making moves to secure Igboho’s release according to reports.
