Several camps of armed bandits have been destroyed in Zamfara State following aggressive airstrikes by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets.
Locations shelled included the South of Dansadau town and North of Kuyanbana Forest Reserves of the state.
The 3-day bombardments, from 2nd to 5th August, killed about 80 of the criminals.
The NAF deployed Alpha Jet MI 171 and Agusta 109 chopper for the operation.
Director of Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabwet in a statement said the assault by the Air and Ground Component of Operation Hadarin Daji was successful.
The spokesman noted that the NAF swung into action following intelligence confirming the mass movement of bandits on motorcycles.
Ground troops formed blocking forces around the targeted areas of the forest
However, the NAF 404 Force Protection Group stationed in Kaduna, arrested a 48-year-old bandits’ logistics runner.
Aminu Saminu, who was intercepted around the Kaduna International Airport, confessed that he disguised as a charcoal trader.
“His capture has led to useful information. Citizens are enjoined to keep cooperating with the NAF and sister agencies”; the statement added.
