A lifeless body of a unidentified middle-aged woman was found dangling in an uncompleted building on Thursday at Idokpa community close to the Benin bypass, Edo State.
It was gathered that the woman, who was not a resident of the area, might have committed suicide overnight.
According to PUNCH, one of the residents, who identified himself simply as Samuel, said the woman was not residing in the community and stated that many of the residents, who saw her corpse, could not identify her, raising suspicion that she might have come from another part of the city.
“We all ran there when the news got to us, but no one seemed to know the woman or where she came from. Hopefully, the police will unravel the mystery,” Samuel stated.
Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident took many by surprise and wondered what could have led the woman to take her own life, adding, “Only God knows the true position of things for now.”
The owner of the building was said to have called the police for the evacuation of the corpse to the mortuary.
The spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Kontongs Bello, who confirmed the incident said the command was investigating the incident and would come up with a statement in due course.
