Shoe cobbler allegedly stabs brother to death during quarrel in Aba

A shoe cobbler simply identified as Nuhu has allegedly stabbed his brother, Umaru to death at Nkoro Street off Okigwe road in Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.

Nuhu, who is from Niger Republic, was said to have slit the throat of his brother with broken bottle, causing him to lose excessive blood.

Many shop owners around the warehouse where the deceased served as a security guard were forced to close shop over possible police arrest.

It was learnt the suspect is on admission at the police clinic at Aba Area Command.

According to The Nation, a resident who pleaded anonymity said; “From what we learnt, before the ugly incident, the deceased had threatened that he will be sending Nuhu back to Niger Republic because of his attitude. That angered Nuhu who had heated quarrel with the deceased.

“Around 10:30 pm, both of them were heard exchanging words with one another and before you know it, the sound of a bottle was heard.

“Shortly afterwards, the fight took them outside which drew the attention of the people and by the time some neighbours could muster the courage to come out to know what was happening, they met the deceased in the pool of his blood. At that time, they could barely do nothing.

“From what we learnt, one of their brothers tried to separate them but Nuhu overpowered him. It was at that point that he used an available machete to cut his legs, but the damage was already done.

“It was at that time that they placed a call across the owner of the warehouse who came with some police officers to evacuate the deceased.

“People nearly lynched Nuhu if not that some people suggested that it could lead to civil unrest in the city.

“It was through his confession that it was gathered that he killed the deceased through rage as the deceased asked him not to wash his clothes inside their room.”
