The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says the allegation that “a strange flag” has been hoisted at its headquarters in Abuja was false.
The Agency’s Head of Public Relations, Manzo Ezekiel, in a statement clarified that its offices only display the Nigerian flag and NEMA’s.
He said the picture in circulation was taken on Friday 13th August 2021 at the commissioning of NEMA’s newly upgraded Emergency Call Centre.
The facility, Ezekiel noted, was upgraded with support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
The Centre also provided food assistance to persons affected by insurgency and banditry in the North-East and North-West.
“Flags are very important national symbols. It was normal to have flags of Nigeria and that of Saudi Arabia placed behind representatives of the two nations at a bilateral function,” he said.
The spokesman said at the function were representatives of the Saudi Embassy and a team from the King Salman Centre.
Ezekiel added that the Saudi flag was immediately removed and urged Nigerians to disregard “the false alarm and failed campaign of calumny”.
