One Habibu Haruna on Thursday, August 19, was sentenced to death by hanging for killing a woman with a hoe in Jigawa.
The Presiding Judge, Justice M. A Sambo of Jigawa State High Court sitting in Gumel, said the court found Habibu Haruna of Dan Makama Village in Suletankarkar Local Government guilty of culpable Homicide.
He said the prosecution counsel had presented two witnesses and tendered confessional statements that were admitted in evidence, and the convict testified in his defence.
Sambo said the medical report proved that the convict had used a hoe and stick to strike one Aisha Adamu (deceased) on her forehead, which resulted in her death.
He said the offence is punishable with death under section 221 (b) of the Penal Code Law.
Having satisfied that the Prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, the Court found Haruna guilty of the offence of culpable homicide, thereby sentenced him to death by hanging.
He said the punishment will serve as a deterrent to others of similar minds.
