Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni may not have commanded the kind of respect he deserves but his name in the history books cannot be erased.
Up until Saturday, August 21, 2021, Aiyegbeni with 95 goals to his name was the fourth African highest goal scorer ever in the Premier League.
However, with the goal scored by Sadio Mane on Saturday in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Burnley, the Senegalese have leapfrogged over the former Super Eagles striker into the fourth position.
Mane has now scored 96 Premier League goals during his brilliant display at Southampton and Liverpool, the 4th most of any African player to ever play in the Premier League.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba currently holds the record with 104, but Mane and Mohammed Salah are breathing down the neck of the Ivorian.
Most Premier League goals scored by African players:
Didier Drogba (104)
Mohamed Salah (98)
Emmanuel Adebayor (97)
Sadio Mané (96)
Yakubu (95)
