Police rescue boy in Lagos, arrest neighbour, one other for alleged kidnap

Two suspected kidnappers identified as Desmond Ikechukwu Okafor (21) and Egwuonwu Gift Iyke (34), have been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command.

The State Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement on Saturday said they conspired and kidnapped 8-year-old Daniel Chukwudi on 11th July 2021.

The crime was executed by the victim’s neighbour, Okorafor, who used his access to the family to lure the victim from his parents’ home at Aboru in Ipaja.

Okoroafor took Chukwudi to the Ajangbadi area of Lagos where he was kept for six days before a successful rescue operation.

One day after the act, the suspects reached out to the parents, demanded N2.5million as ransom and threatened to kill the victim.

The State Intelligence Bureau opened an investigation and launched a manhunt which led to the arrest of the abductors in their hideouts.

The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has directed that the suspects be charged to court.

Odumosu also ordered operatives to bust other kidnappers and criminal elements in Lagos.
