Kwara State government, on Sunday, evacuated students of Kwara origin from Jos, Plateau State.
It is recalled that Jos in the past few days has recorded killings and looting of property by criminal elements, leading to the imposition of curfew and movement restriction.
It was gathered that the incident persisted on Sunday as the Kwara State government embarked on the evacuation of the students following an appeal by the students under the aegis of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS).
In a statement signed by the president of the group, Muftau Mubarak Shittu, the leadership of the NAKSS had sought assistance from the state government for quick evacuation of the students in the troubled state.
“In lieu of the ugly incident in Jos, the leadership of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) National Headquarters sought the support of the Kwara State Government to assist with vehicles and convey Kwara indigenes schooling in Jos back home which was given quick attention in safeguarding lives and property of the students.
“As at the time of writing this report, the students are on their way back to Kwara state. The leadership of NAKSS National Headquarters, however, implore Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, and relevant security agencies in Nigeria to help in restoring peace and unity in the state to further assist students and other residents of the city to continue with their normal businesses.”
The group also commended the quick response of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, “for coming to the aid of Kwara indigenes schooling in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.”
