Real Madrid and Stade Rennais are in advanced talks over a deal for midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to a report from Canal Plus France later confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Camavinga would join Real Madrid for €30 million once the details are sorted out and the deal becomes official.
While the reports said that the deal is not finalized, the fact that Camavinga’s contract expires in 2022 and that Madrid definitely have the money to complete this transfer makes the move very likely.
Madrid had been interested in Camavinga since last year, and reports from Spain even suggested that Los Blancos were going to complete his signing until the Covid-19 pandemic hit European football.
Camavinga will turn 19 years old this winter and is one of the most intriguing prospects in the world of football, although he might not have a clear, obvious role in the current Real Madrid squad, given that Modric, Kroos and Valverde will be ahead of him in the rotation.
The transfer is expected to be made official on Tuesday.
Madrid have been following Camavinga for several seasons, with former manager, Zinedine Zidane a longtime admirer of the player who made his Ligue 1 debut as 16-year-old.
He will be expected to eventually replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in Real’s midfield.
