Bauchi swears in 21 commissioners, others

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed

The Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim and the Chief of Staff Government House, Aminu Gamawa, who were recently appointed by Governor Bala Mohammed, have been sworn in.

Also sworn in are the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Samaila Burga; and the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Bashir Ya’u.

Similarly, the 21 Commissioner-nominees confirmed lately by the Bauchi State House of Assembly were also sworn in.

The swearing in which took place at the Bauchi Government House annex on Thursday, was presided over by the state Chief Judge, Justice Talatu Umar, who administered the oath of allegiance and oath of office on the newly sworn in officers.

In his speech, Mohammed, who congratulated the new officers, said that very soon, he would come up with the second leg of appointees to serve as Special Advisers adding that anybody sworn in is suitable and competent and has the backing of his people.

He charged the Commissioners to carry all politicians and the people along, informing them that their selection is not just to represent their political party but to represent the people in their local governments irrespective of their political persuasion, religious inclination, tribe or creed.

“As Commissioners, you must find a way of respecting the seniority and protocol of relationship with those people who I consider my bosses. Anything short of that, you will cause conflict and you will cause division and rancour,” he warned.

He said, “All the Commissioners we brought are tested technocrats and some of them are politicians, and because they are politicians, they will understand the angle I am talking about.

“We are going into 2023, we have to manage the transition from governance to politicking. In that vein, we brought politicians irrespective of their educational background so that, by the grace of God, we will have continuity of our tenure in 2023.

“I want to advise upcoming politicians that politics is not delusion or division, it is not deception, you must be able to bring sobriety, humility and sincerity to it and that is why we are able to deliver on our promises to a large extent.”
