The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has postponed Saturday’s council election in four LGAs in the state.
Recall that the commission had earlier announced that the September 4 LG election will be conducted with the use of electronic voting machines in the 23 LGAs of the state.
Speaking at a media briefing on Friday, Saratu Dikko-Audu, chairman of KADSIECOM, announced that the election has been postponed in Chikun, Kajuru, Zangon Kataf and Birnin Gwari LGAs.
Dikko-Audu said the decision was taken following security reports.
He added that the election in the affected LGAs will now be conducted on September 25.
“I have been reliably informed by architecture within the state that security report in the state would make it impossible to peacefully conduct local government council election in a number of local government areas,” she said.
“Consequently, in order to protect lives and property, we have had to suspend the election in a number of local government areas and reschedule election in these local government areas for a later date, after consultation with members of the commission.
“The state independent electoral commission has decided to reschedule the local government council election in the following local government areas, Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru and Zango Kataf.
“It is our belief that the security operatives would be able to fully deploy to these local government areas for election on the stated date, in order to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”
Dikko-Audu also urged residents to cooperate with the state government and security agencies for a peaceful election.
