No fewer than 47 bandits terrorizing Shiroro communities and environs in Niger State have met their waterloo as hunters stormed a village in Magami, between Shiroro and Rafi Local Government Areas, and killed scores of the outlaws.
It was discovered that a settlement, close to a river, was used as a hideout by the bandits who established camps in the axis.
“At least 47 of them were eliminated by the hunters who participated in the operation,” an intelligence officer told PRNigeria.
The state government recently inaugurated the Niger Special Vigilante Corps (NSVC).
The outfit, endorsed by the police, was established to streamline the activities of local security outfits.
The police and NSCV members have been carrying out joint raids against criminals.
Meanwhile, the Police anti-banditry team in Niger have gunned down a notorious informant, Buba Baromi.
Baromi was killed in Damba forest after hunters led the police to his hideout.
He had been in hiding to recuperate from a gunshot wound earlier sustained during a gun duel with security operatives.
Baromi was not only an informant, he led bandits to targets of attacks and kidnap operations, a source said.
