Some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) ignored the warnings of the leadership of the ruling party and held a parallel LG congress on Saturday in Lagos state.
Recall that the national secretary of the APC caretaker committee, John Akpanudoedehe on Friday said the party will invoke disciplinary measures on those who hold parallel congresses.
Despite the warnings, the ‘Lagos 4Lagos Movement‘, led by Olajide Adediran, went against the directive, citing impunity, imposition, and marginalisation in the party.
At the parallel congress, 27 LG executives and three national delegates emerged, with Babatunde Odikunrin as chairman, Ogunleye Babatunde as vice chairman, and 25 other executives.
The recognised APC group, led by Tunde Balogun, the state caretaker committee chairman, held its congress in designated areas approved by the party’s local government congress committee.
According to NAN, Balogun said he was not aware of parallel congress.
However, some other members of the party in Amuwo-Odofin LGA of the state have alleged diversion of their nomination forms.
Ayodele Ogungbiye, chairman of APC in Amuwo-Odofin, said despite paying, the caretaker committee chairman refused to give them their nomination forms.
Ogungbiye said Balogun accused them of belonging to the Lagos4Lagos Movement.
Reacting, Balogun described the allegations as “unsubstantiated”.
