Lagos CP Odumosu visits grieving family of teenager shot dead by sergeant

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, on Monday, paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family of the late Monsurat Ojuade who was shot dead at Ijeshatedo, Surulere, by a police sergeant, Samuel Phillips.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that Phillips shot dead 18-year-old admission seeker, who reportedly scored 236 in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations and was awaiting admission when she was killed.

The CP assured the family that the culprit, one Sgt. Samuel Phillips, sergeant attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba had been arrested and was currently undergoing orderly room trial.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘Lagos CP Pays Condolence Visit To Bereaved Family Of Girl Killed By Stray Bullet’.

 

According to the PPRO, Odumosu presented a letter of condolence to the bereaved family and reassured them that justice would be served on the matter.

“Accompanied by top members of the Lagos State Police Command’s Management Team and other senior Police Officers, the Commissioner of Police expressed, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, psc(+), fdc, NPM; officers and men of the Command, his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.

“While expressing regret over the unfortunate incident, the CP prayed for the repose of Monsurat’s soul, and also prayed that God grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the great loss.

“Presenting a letter of condolence to the family, the Commissioner of Police also reassured them that justice would be served, disclosing that the culprit, Sgt. Samuel Phillips had been arrested, and was currently undergoing orderly room trial,” the statement partly read.
