The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has discovered a newborn baby dumped inside a pit latrine at Kwarin Manu Quarters, in Hadejia Local Government, Jigawa State.
The State Public Relations Officer, CSC Adamu Shehu confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said it happened on Wednesday at about 1500hrs after 47-year-old Umar Muhd reported to the NSCDC that he sighted something inside his toilet (pit latrine) and perceived a strange smell.
Shehu said the NSCDC personnel rushed to the scene and a dead body of a baby was discovered tied in a pillowcase inside the pit latrine.
He said the body was evacuated and taken to the General hospital Hadejia where it was confirmed dead.
Shehu said Umar Muhd was, however, detained at the NSCDC custody for interrogation.
He said the decomposing body of the baby was handed over to the ward head of Kwarin Manu Social Welfare and LGA representatives for proper burial.
He added that the State Commandant, Mustapha Talba (CC) has ordered an in-depth investigation to fish out those behind the wicked act.
