Olagoke Dare, an employee of a microfinance bank in Abeokuta, was detained by officers from the Ogun State Police Command for plotting with an accomplice to rob him of a cash sum of 3 million naira belonging to his company.
The culprit was apprehended when the police at Ibara divisional headquarters got a distress call that armed robbers had assaulted the couple of Olagoke Dare and Mary Agbejo as they exited a commercial bank in the Oke-ilewo area, where they had gone to withdraw money.
When the distress call came in, the DPO Ibara division, SP Segun Ajao, swiftly organized his men and rushed to the site, where one Idowu Tunde was apprehended with the help of members of the public. During questioning, the apprehended suspect, who was armed with a fake gun, told the police that it was Olagoke Dare who instructed him that his employer would be sending him and one other person to withdraw 3 million naira, and that they should come and rob them of the money.
The detained suspect went on to say that Dare Olagoke was the one who supplied him the toy gun for the operation.
While they got into the car, Idowu Tunde explained that he came out suddenly from the back seat and pointed the gun at the lady who was in possession of the money. But the lady noticed that the gun did not look Original consequent upon which she dragged the gun with him and raised alarm. It was the alarm that attracted people who pursued him and called the police.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the acting commissioner of police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the two suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation. He, therefore, advised that companies should endeavour to always have background checks on their staff before employing them.
