Jigawa State police detained 279 motorcyclists for disobeying the state government’s order restricting movement.
To combat instability, the Jigawa State Government banned motorbike movement from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police spokesman, confirmed the arrest to reporters.
He stated that the decision is part of the state government’s efforts to safeguard the safety of its residents.
Shiisu added that after Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar issued an executive order, the police jumped into action to ensure that the order was fully enforced.
According to him “we were able to arrest Two Hundred and Seventy-Nine motorcyclists across the State and Two Hundred and Twenty Three Ninety have been charged to court for prosecution” he stated.
The Command, however, called on motorcycle riders in the state to comply with the order as it will not relent in its efforts to deal decisively with any violator.
