Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said that he nearly lost his reelection campaign in 2019 because he fired several teachers.
El-Rufai stated that he tested certain instructors and that those who failed were fired.
He said that he was prepared to forego his second term ambition in order to provide great education to Kaduna children.
El-Rufai made the announcement Monday at the Fountain Summit 2021 in Ekiti State.
According to the Governor, the decision to sack the teachers led to threats that he would lose the election.
“My brother here was said to have lost his second term bid the first time because he threatened to test teachers.
“I tested them and fired them before our election. When I was asked that I would lose the second term, I said if losing a second term in office will give Kaduna State children a future with better primary education, I am ready to let it go,” El-Rufai said.
The governor insisted that the test was honestly carried out and devoid of partisan politics.
