An officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Ayotoro Oladimeji, narrowly escaped death after a mob attempted to lynch him over an undisclosed offence in the Egbeda area of the state.
It was gathered that the incident happened at Mosalasi Roundabout on Idimu- Egbeda Road, Alimosho Local government Area of the State, where some aggrieved attackers descended on him before he was rescued and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The attack was reported to the Police at Gowon Estate, who moved into action and eventually arrested five of the suspects, Sodiq Azeez, 24, Elijah Okungboye, 27, Ismaila Adeagbo, 22, Ramon Dauda 31, and Ismail Rank, 22.
Thereafter, they were charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged assault on the traffic official.
The Police alleged the defendants to have conspired and seriously attacked the LASTMA official with fist blows and kicks injuring him in the process.
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Innocent Odugbo, did not object to their being granted bail but asked the Court to give a short adjournment for hearing to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A Owolabi, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned.
