The Nigerian Correctional Service Armed squad prevented a security breach at the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
CSC. Oladokun, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos State Command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, November 1. He said armed NCS operatives foiled an attempt by some attackers to forcefully release an inmate on the court’s premises.
According to Oladokun, one of the attackers was shot while attempting to take an armed personnel’s firearm.
“Persons suspected of being companions of an inmate brought to the Lagos High Court for a hearing staged an attack on escort officials in an attempt to forcefully release the inmate while on the premises of the Court. However, the NCOS court escorts’ prompt response and vigilance prevented their plan “he explained.
“To avert a collapse of law and order, a security reinforcement was promptly dispatched to the courthouse. All detainees have been successfully returned to the Correctional Service’s secure custody.”
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that during the melee that ensued, one of the attackers was shot while attempting to take an armed personnel’s firearm.
“Adewale Adebisi, the Controller of Corrections, praised the brave police for repelling the onslaught and returning the offender to jail. He informs the public that all Custodial Centres’ security is unaffected. He expressed gratitude to other security services, particularly the Nigerian Police Force, for their prompt response in assisting in the restoration of normalcy.”
