Thugs broke into the Plateau State House of Assembly early Monday, causing disruption and attempting to remove lawmakers who were already sitting in the chamber.
Security operatives were caught off guard when some unknown persons made their way through the back of the House to prevent the embattled Speaker, Abok Ayuba, and some members of the House from proceeding with any proceedings, resulting in a response and clash with youths protesting outside the complex in support of the Speaker.
The quarrel resulted in the destruction of doors and windows, and it required the fast intervention of security forces headed by the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, and State Commandant of the National Security and Civil Defense Corps, Alexander Barunde, to restore order.
Roads leading to the Plateau State House of Assembly, however, were blocked by youths carrying banners in favor of beleaguered Speaker Abok Ayuba, who was allegedly impeached last week Thursday.
Recent reports have also shown Ayuba in a video as he sat with other members calling for the restoration of legal process and procedures in the house and advocated for the intervention of democratic stakeholders, and the President Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Soon afterwards, the security agencies moved in to forestall the breakdown of law and order as they ordered everyone out of the complex, tear-gassed persons who resisted as they scampered for safety.
As at the time of filing this report, normalcy has been restored, but security has barricaded the road leading to the State Assembly.
Also, both the Commissioner of Police in the State, Edward Egbuka and State Commandant NSCDC, Alexander Barunde are still in the Assembly complex.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that an emissary has been sent to the Governor of the State (all APC members); while other members loyal to the embattled Speaker are in the Assembly complex, saying they will not leave until the Speaker is reinstated.
Recall that last Thursday 8 members of the 24 legislature purportedly impeached Rt. Hon. Ayuba, and replaced him Hon. Yakubu Sanda (APC, Pengana Constituency).
