Speakership crisis: Security agents shut off Plateau assembly complex

The Plateau assembly complex has been shut off by security agents following the speakership crisis in the state.

Recall that the speaker, Abok Ayuba on October 28 was impeached by eight lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Thereafter, the lawmakers elected Yakubu Sanda, member representing Pengana constituency, as the new speaker.

But Ayuba and members of the house loyal to him held a session outside the assembly and suspended six members involved in the impeachment.

On Monday, youths supporting Ayuba staged a solidarity protest but thugs attacked them and vandalised the assembly.

According to NAN, on Wednesday, security personnel were strategically positioned around the complex and at the gates.

The personnel were made up of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the police.

Gabriel Ubah, police public relations officer in the state, was, however, quoted as saying he did not have any information on the development.

“Give me some time let me call the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of the area to get the details,” Ubah said.

“I will get back to you as soon as I have the information.”

On his part, Philip Dasun, spokesman of the state house of state of assembly, said the two contending parties are working towards a truce.
