Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has charged members of the Batch C Stream 1 to resist the temptation to engage in local politics because it is prohibited by the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws, as well as workplace norms and regulations.
This followed as he urged the corps members to be security vigilant at all times and to avoid any actions that could put them in danger.
This was announced by the NYSC Director-General during the terminal parade/closing of the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 orientation course on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
General Ibrahim noted that acts that could put the corps members in harm’s way include staying out late nights, attendance of night parties, visitation of dangerous places, and acceptance of car rides from strangers.
The NYSC boss, while assuring them of the scheme’s commitment to their security and general welfare disclosed that the NYSC was in constant liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders with the view of ensuring safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilled service year.
Ibrahim, who charged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC, admonished them to be wary of vices like drug abuse, cybercrime, and advanced free fraud that can soil their images
He reminded them that membership of the NYSC did not confer immunity from the legal consequences of wrongdoing if caught and also enjoined them to continue being law-abiding citizens.
In order to ensure that corps members were not involved in any accident, the NYSC DG reminded them that there was still an embargo on unauthorised journeys and night trips.
While advising against night trips, General Ibrahim maintained that it will increase the risk of accidents and make rescue in the case of an eventuality very difficult.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka during the closing ceremony for the 1,579 corps members deployed to the state, tasked them to always adhere to the COVID-19 protocols and ensure that they are vaccinated with their vaccination card as proof.
She reminded the NYSC members that the Federal Government directive that unvaccinated individuals would not be permitted in public facilities from December 1 would apply to them.
A total number of 1,579 corps members were deployed to Osun State for the Batch C Stream 1 orientation course, out of which 777 were males and 802 were females.
