Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Wednesday said that there is hope for democracy to flourish in the country if all agencies and participants play according to the game.
Ortom stated this in his congratulatory message to the newly elected governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo.
According to the press statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur, Ortom described Soludo’s victory as a true reflection of the wishes of the people of Anambra and not the machination of some individuals or groups outside the state.
He commended the dogged determination of people of Anambra from the beginning of the campaign till the final declaration of results to overcome intimidation, coercive threats of force and uphold their wishes and express their franchise by freely electing their choice.
Governor Ortom also commended the security agencies deployed in the state for maintaining law and order before, during and after the conduct of the election with no known cases of violence.
The governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the credible conduct of the polls without yielding to external pressure to frustrate the will of the people of Anambra state.
He said that the Anambra election was a pointer that democracy will flourish when all agencies and participants play according to the dictates of the process guiding the democratic principles.
Ortom prayed that God would guide the governor-elect to enable him serve the people faithfully and realize his vision for the state.
