After Nigeria failed to beat Cape Verde on Tuesday evening in a 2022 World Cup qualifying tie, Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has given his verdict on the performances of Victor Osimhen and Odion Ighalo.
At the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Osimhen and Ighalo played together for the first time in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier 1-1 draw against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.
The Napoli striker scored the only goal for Rohr’s men against Cape Verde as they top Group C with 13 points to progress to the World Cup play-off.
Speaking after the game, Rohr said at his post-match press conference, “Osimhen will grow and learn a lot by the side of Ighalo.
“We saw some interesting things between [Odion] Ighalo and [Victor] Osimhen [today].
“You need a little patience and time with Ighalo, he has not been with us for more than a year.
“I am sure for the AFCON we can prepare with these two players a more harmonious strike force. They were not bad together already, the chances we got came with the help of Ighalo.
“Let’s give them time to work together and the goals will come again.”
