Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command and some civilians prevented a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Nasiru from being kidnapped by gunmen.
Public Relations Officer of the state police command, ASP Rahman Nansel, who disclosed this In a statement on Sunday said the incident occurred at about 8:10pm on Saturday.
According to Nansel, the command received a distress call that six gunmen were in an active operation after they invaded Nasiru’s residence at the Bukan Kwato area of Lafia, the state capital.
Commissioner of Police, Adesina Soyemi mobilised patrol teams around the axis to the scene and the officers and courageous members of the community jointly foiled the attack.
The assailants hit Nasiru with a stick on his forehead and shot a neighbour on the right leg.
They then escaped into nearby bushes, while the victims were rushed to a hospital. All are in a stable condition, reports say..
