Sudan’s military reinstalled Abdalla Hamdok as Prime Minister on Sunday, four weeks after he was deposed.

Sudan TV stated that the public administrator retook office at the presidential palace in Khartoum.

The 15th Prime Minister and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan agreed to form a new transitional administration.

“We will put our country back on the right track”, Hamdok said while announcing the return of democracy.

He will form a cabinet with civilian representatives; Al-Burhan jointly is now leader of the Sovereign Council, comprising military representatives.

Political prisoners detained during the overthrow will be freed. Hamdok himself had been under house arrest.

The 65-year-old became the transitional PM in 2019 after protests forced out ex-dictator Omar al-Bashir.

Hamdok was toppled on October 25, less than five weeks after an initial attempt to seize the government.

In September, President Alpha Conde of Guinea was removed by the elite soldiers he formed headed by Col Mamady Doumbouya.
