The Bayelsa State Government has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and faulted the claims of the opposition party in the state that the state government under Governor Douye Diri elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party was not performing.
According to the government, the impression created by the APC that the administration was not delivering on its promises was false and amounts to double speak.
This was contained in a statement released in Yenagoa by the state Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ayibaina Duba while reacting to reports credited to the purported APC Bayelsa East senatorial vice chairman, Alabo Martins, knocking the government for not doing well.
Duba, in the statement titled, ‘Bayelsa State APC and its cocktail of lies,’ described the opposition APC as a party that had lost the initiative and was already in troubled waters as its boat was sinking fast.
He said, “More importantly, to say the state government has not delivered on its promises by the rudderles APC, amounts to double speak. The assumed leadership of APC recently complained about the ongoing 20 concrete internal roads in Yenagoa, on the trail of 52 rehabilitated roads within the city.
“How can APC maintain that the state government is not performing and at the same time complain that the ongoing Igbogene-AIT Road should be two lanes rather than the ongoing one lane, which was strategic in view of the desire of government to complete a lane first due to the dictates of the financial outlay, and embark on the second lane thereafter.
“They have also complained about not knowing the identity of contractors executing developmental projects in the state. How logical is it to say nothing is happening in the state, yet you seek to know those handling the projects whose names are conspicuously displayed at every project site?
“If APC is really operating in Bayelsa and not on the pages of newspapers, the party would have been aware of several ongoing development projects, including the Phase 2 of the Glory Drive, Nembe Unity Bridge, Yenagoa/Oporoma Road, Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, Imiringi Bridge, Igbedi/Amassoma Road, Shoreline Protection Projects at Sampou, Odoni and Agbere.
“The party would come in contact with the magnificent ongoing Media House project, more than 180 school projects, including the construction of eight new technical colleges, six model secondary schools as well as the upgrade of facilities at all the state-owned tertiary institutions leading to the accreditation of most of the courses offered, and many more.”
Duba said the APC was abreast of ongoing revolution in various sectors of the state’s economy due to the leadership style of Diri in spite of the paucity of funds, stressing that the party had only realised that it does not have any chance in future elections in the state.
He enjoined the APC in the state to resolve its in-house crisis rather than blame the state government for its self-inflicted political injuries, adding that it could not be the fault of the governor that prominent members of the party were leaving in droves for the PDP as a result of his disposition to peace and unity and ability to deepen good governance.
“The APC’s fear and desperate attempt at hoodwinking unsuspecting members of the general public is understood but rather than helping its cause, the party’s penchant for lies will worsen its deteriorating situation in Bayelsa State,” the commissioner added.
