A 400 level student from the Faculty of Education, Bayero University, Kano, Binta Isa, died on Friday night after complaining of chest pain.
The University Head of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, who disclosed this in a statement to newsmen in Kano on Saturday said the deceased, who hailed from Kogi State, died around 7pm.
The statement read, “The Director of the University Health Services, said late Binta Isa had previously visited the New Campus Clinic, on Wednesday, 24th November, 2021 and complained of chest pain in which she was diagnosed and administered with some drugs.
“The Director further explained that the deceased had responded to treatment in which she continued attending her lectures on Thursday and Friday, as well as other routine activities.
“On Friday, 26th November, 2021 in the evening during Magrib prayer, she again complained of mild chest pain to her roommates but she managed to perform ablution and prayed the Maghrib prayer in the room.”
According to the statement, however, the roommates were shocked to have come back and met her lying on the floor and they immediately raised an alarm after which she was taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctors.
It noted that the Vice Chancellor, Sagir Abbas along with the University Registrar, Jamil Salim; Director University Health Services; and the Director of Security, Abdulyakin Ibrahim were all at the scene.
“Meanwhile, the Management of the University has contacted and briefed her brother, who resides in Kano about the situation.” the statement added
