Gateman arrested for attempting to sell employer’s N3m car for N350,000 in Cross River

Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command have arrested a guard, Godswill Ezekiel Ugbe, for attempting to sell his employer’s car, estimated to cost N3 million for only N350,000.

The suspect was accosted by the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad while driving the car to a buyer’s place along Atimbo/Akpabuyo Road.

According to PUNCH, sources said the Commander of AKCS (Dragon Squad), SP Abdulhameed Awodi, led the operation based on intelligence gathered which resulted in the recovery of the car, a Toyota Camry with registration No. KT 114 LH.

The Dragon Squad were said to be on patrol when they saw a Toyota Camry which they suspected was stolen.

However, the driver sped off towards Bakassi when he saw the Dragon Squad approaching the vehicle. He was pursued and arrested.

The suspect’s employer was said to live abroad and employed Ugbe to guard his property and two cars, one of which the suspect attempted to sell.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, said, “He is a gateman employed to safeguard a compound and some cars since the owner and his employer lives abroad, but he decided to try selling off one of the cars.

“Unfortunately for him, men of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad, on patrol, suspected that the car was stolen and went after him. After his arrest, they discovered he was trying to sell the car for a meagre N350,000. That car is about N3 million.

“He has confessed to the crime and would be charged to court as soon as possible.”
