Nzuko Ndigbo and World Igbo Youth Council (WIYC), Igbo socio-political groups, have lambasted the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum for warning against the demand by Igbo elders for release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The Northern group spoke after a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and Igbo elders led by Chief Mbazulike Amaechi.
Recall that the President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, Yerima Shettima, had in an interview, claimed that allowing Kanu to go unpunished would be harmful to Nigeria and the Federal Government.
Reacting, the Nzuko Ndigbo and WIYC, in a statement jointly signed respectively by their spokespersons, Edomobi Promise and Emenike Nwagbara, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, questioned why Shettima, whom they accused of trying to destabilize Nigeria over the years and who should be in behind bars by now, would issue such warning to the government.
The Igbo socio-cultural groups lamented that the Federal Government is yet to arrest Shettima despite his dangerous and divisive comments and efforts to burn the country in the past.
The organizations commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the move to release Nnamdi Kanu who was unlawfully abducted by agents of the government.
According to the groups, “it was this same man that gave Igbos quit notice in the North some years ago and nearly tore the nation”.
The Nzuko Ndigbo and the World Igbo Youth Council, further insisted on the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu and appropriate apologies to him.
