NCDC records 53 new suspected cholera cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that 53 new suspected cases of cholera were recorded in six states within one week.

This was made kmown by the agency in its epidemiological report for November 15 to November 21.

The agency said two deaths were recorded, with Nasarawa and Zamfara accounting for 81 percent of the total number of new suspected cases.

According to the report, the total number of suspected cholera cases is now 103,589, while the total number of deaths is 3,566.

“Thirty-two states and FCT have reported suspected cholera cases in 2021. These are Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, FCT, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Rivers and Zamfara,” the report reads.

“In the reporting week, 6 states reported 53 suspected cases-Nasarawa (28), Zamfara (15), Lagos (3), Adamawa (3), Kaduna (2) and Kebbi (2).

“There was 64% decrease in the number of new suspected cases in week 46(53) compared with week 45(148).

“Nasarawa (28) and Zamfara (15) account for 81% of 53 suspected cases reported in week 46.

“During the reporting week, 1 Cholera Rapid Diagnostic Test(RDT) was conducted. RDT conducted was from Kebbi (1). Of this, a total of 1(100%) was positive.

“Of the cases reported, there were two deaths from one state reporting with a weekly case fatality ratio(CFR) of 3.8%.”
